Position: 10-Week/Summer Project Associate
Larisa Ortiz Associates Commercial District Advisors is seeking a 4-day/week, 10-week (May-July) project associate. Our offices are located in Jackson Heights, Queens and occasional field work may be done around NYC and NJ.
LOA is a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in retail planning efforts for urban commercial districts. Our clients represent a diverse group of government agencies and non-profit organizations, including Business Improvement Districts, as well as community and for-profit developers who seek market-informed strategies to improve local retail environments and commercial districts.
This position is ideal for a graduate student (or recent a graduate) in the field of urban studies, urban planning, real estate, economic development or business looking to gain hands-on experience and learn more about the field. The Project Associate will learn the basics of market research, how to conduct field research and site selection analysis, and how to turn this into first-rate deliverables for clients.
The right candidate will be an intellectually curious, self-starter who is comfortable working both independently and as a member of a team. S/he will have be have a demonstrated zeal for this work as evidenced by previous job experience, research, coursework, etc.
Primary responsibilities include: Participating in site analysis; conducting research on retailers both online and in the field; participating in market and demographic studies; researching and writing for the Commercial District Advisor (blog); developing presentations and final reports, preparing and incorporating maps and info graphics into final reports; providing general project and office admin support.
